Urban Forest Management Planning Projects

Prince George Urban Forest Management Plan

Description: Tesera Systems Inc. was retained to develop the Prince George Urban Forest Management Plan (“the Plan”).  The Plan was designed to be a comprehensive and practical document that establishes the guiding principles and policies for the management of the City’s urban forest.  The Plan identified urban forest management procedures and Modules to support ongoing City administration and Staff operations within the City’s boundaries.   The Plan reflects the values held by the Community and its visitors as represented in a Social Valuation Study, and input from a series of Open Houses which will be held during the development of the Plan.  A fundamental principle of the Plan is to protect the broad array of urban forest elements that can contribute to the quality of life in the community of Prince George.

Town of Banff Urban Forest Management Plan

Description: Tesera Systems Inc. (Prime), TREES Consulting Inc., HAB-TECH Environmental Ltd. and FOR TREES Consulting Ltd. developed an Urban Forest Management Plan for the Town of Banff.  The Plan included an inventory of the existing urban forest, valuation of the forest, a five-year annual urban forest management plan (UFMP) budget.  The Plan outlined suggestions for updating tree management/protection bylaws.  Strategic recommendations and operational priorities were provided to protect the Town’s substantial investment in the urban forest asset. Management directions were fit within ecosystem management principles. The UFMP was designed to provide the Town of Banff Administration and Staff with support for continued planning, monetary and resource allocations to ensure effective management of the urban forest and public safety.  The Town Council approved a three year investment program of $450,000, to address high-risk issues identified within the UFMP.
